Mach 1 returning to Mustang corral

Mach 1Ford announced the return of the Mustang Mach 1, and promises them yet this spring | Ford photos

Ford is bringing back its heralded Mustang Mach I, and plans to do so this spring, which apparently means between now and the first day of summer, which this year is June 20.

Note: This is the Mustang Mach I, not the Mach E, so it’s a high-performance sports coupe, not a utility vehicle, and it has a 5.0-liter gasoline-fueled V8 engine, not an electric powertrain.

Ford shares teaser images to whet your appetite

“The iconic fastback coupe that debuted during the first golden era of muscle cars in the late-1960s now returns for global Mustang enthusiasts looking for the epitome of naturally aspirated 5.0-liter V8 performance in a new golden age of power as a new choice in the lineup of the world’s best-selling sports car,” Ford said in its announcement.

“Mach 1 has a special place in Mustang history, and it’s time for this special edition to claim the top spot in our 5.0-liter V8 performance lineup and reward our most hardcore Mustang enthusiasts who demand that next level of power, precision and collectability,” explained Dave Pericak, director of what Ford calls its Ford Icons program.

“Like the original, the all-new Mustang Mach 1 will be true to its heritage, delivering great looks and as the most track-capable 5.0-liter Mustang ever.”

The original Ford Mach 1 was a 1969 model

The Mach 1 debuted as a 1969 model with Mickey Thompson setting a series of world speed records in the car on the Bonneville Salt Flats. The first-generation Mach I was in production for five years. Ford revived the nameplate for a special version of the Mustang for the 2003 and 2004 model years.

“Mach 1 has always been that bridge between base Mustangs and the Shelby models,” said Ted Ryan, heritage brand manager, Ford Archives. “From a style and handling perspective, the original Mach 1 managed to stand out as unique, even in the Mustang lineup – and as the name implies, it could really move.”

While announcing a third-generation Mach 1, Ford has not revealed details of the car such as horsepower or other hardware or its performance potential, though photos released with the announcement shows enlarged front air intakes, quad exhaust pipes,  a large rear spoiler, wide Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tires and a Brembo brake caliper — all indications of a purpose-built car with advanced on-track capabilities.

Aston Martin building retro DB5 series complete with 007 spy gadgets

James Bond’s Aston Martin DB5, dubbed “the most-famous car in the world” after its appearance in the 1964 film Goldfinger, springs back to life as Aston Martin creates a limited run of DB5 Goldfinger Continuation cars.

Just 25 of the iconic DB5 coupes will be built, the company says, all in Birch Silver like the original 007 car, and also festooned with working replicas of the spy gadgets that so excited movie audiences of the 1960s.

aston

According to Aston Martin, the James Bond equipment includes:

Exterior:
Rear smokescreen delivery system.
Rear simulated oil-slick delivery system.
Revolving number plates front and rear (triple plates).
Simulated twin front machine guns.
Bullet-resistant rear shield.
Battering rams front and rear.
Simulated tire slasher.
Removable passenger seat roof panel (optional equipment).

Interior:
Simulated radar-screen tracker map.
Telephone in driver’s door.
Gear knob actuator button.
Armrest and center console-mounted switchgear.
Under-seat hidden weapons/storage tray.
Remote control for gadget activation.

Some of those gadgets will be illegal in many places in the US and around the world, with police most-likely frowning on such antics as creating smoke screens or firing fake machine guns in traffic.  But still, Bond fans should get plenty of kicks showing them off in the driveway.

“Each of the 25 new cars is being built to the highest possible quality using a blend of Sir David Brown-era old world craftsmanship,” Aston Martin said in a news release, “with the sympathetic application of modern engineering advancements and performance enhancements, alongside the integration of cutting-edge gadgets developed in association with Chris Corbould OBE, the special-effects supervisor who has worked on more than a dozen Bond films.”

Aston Martin recently began production of the Continuation cars

The DB5 Goldfinger series is part of Aston Martin’s Continuation program that began with the DB4 GT Continuation in 2017, with limited-edition cars hand-built at the premium automaker’s factory in Newport Pagnell, Buckinghamshire.

Most of the DB5 Goldfinger cars have been sold pre-production, with a price tag of around $3.4 million. First deliveries are scheduled for later this year.

There was no word in the news release about one of the most-famous of 007 gadgets, the passenger ejection seat that sent bad guys soaring through the roof.  After the recent management turmoil within the company, that might have been an unwelcome addition.

Tulsa Dresses Up Their Big Creepy Statue To Look Like Big Creepy Elon Musk In Hopes Of Getting The Cybertruck Mill

Illustration for article titled Tulsa Dresses Up Their Big Creepy Statue To Look Like Big Creepy Elon Musk In Hopes Of Getting The Cybertruck Mill

Ever since Elon Musk introduced the radical-looking electric Tesla Cybertruck late last year by smashing its windows in front of a crowd, one thing has been certain: Tesla will have to build them if they want to sell them. I did the math, it’s true. Tesla is planning on building the Cybertruck in an all-new Cybertruck Gigafactory, the location of which seems to have been narrowed to two candidates: Austin, Texas, and Tulsa, Oklahoma. In an effort to entice Tesla, Tulsa has dressed up their most famous landmark as Elon Musk, and it’s, um, interesting.

The landmark in question is a 76-foot tall statue of an oil worker known as the Golden Driller, which, in its current form, dates from 1966, and was originally built for a 1953 trade show at the Tulsa State Fairgrounds by a company called Mid-Continent Supply Company of Fort Worth, Texas.

After a couple of revisions, the final, stoic-looking version was permanently installed in front of the Tulsa Expo Center, now able to withstand 200 mph winds while looking ripped and pissed off.

The Golden Driller has this inscription on its base:

The Golden Driller, a symbol of the International Petroleum Exposition. Dedicated to the men of the petroleum industry who by their vision and daring have created from God’s abundance a better life for mankind.

It is, of course, pretty ironic to see a literal golden idol of petroleum being used to entice construction of an electric car factory.

While the Golden Driller has been used in advertising before, being dressed up with shirts and ties and perhaps a colossal ascot or two over the years, the transformation into a much-more-buff Elon Musk represents the first time that the Driller’s face has been altered, with something workers called “Elon Musk’s face skin.”

I don’t feel so good.

Is this the kind of thing that’s likely to sway the opinion of Elon Musk? By making a colossal golden statue of him, lording over all creation?

Eh, I could see it working.

2022 Genesis GV70 spy shots

A prototype for the second of three planned crossover SUVs at Genesis has been spotted for the first time.

The prototype is for a small SUV expected to be badged a GV70. Think a Korean rival to the Audi Q5 and BMW X3.

Genesis said at its 2015 launch that it will have six distinct models by the end of 2020, two of which will be SUVs. However, it added a third SUV to the plans in 2017 as growth in the segment boomed.

The first Genesis SUV has already arrived in the form of the 2021 GV80 mid-sizer.

2021 Genesis GV80

2021 Genesis GV80

The small GV70 should bow in late 2020 or early next year, and rounding out the trio will be a compact SUV badged a GV60. This one will take on the Audi A3 and BMW X1, and its timing isn’t clear but a debut in 2021 is expected.

The GV70’s styling themes are similar to those of the GV80, although it features a more coupe-like profile that likely limits headroom at the back. The production taillights are missing, though we can see that they’ll feature a split design. The look was first previewed on 2018’s Essentia concept and has become a central design theme for the Genesis lineup.

It isn’t clear what platform is underpinning the GV70 but a good bet is a shared architecture borrowed from a redesigned Hyundai Tucson also in the works. Powertrains should include 4-cylinder options and possibly a plug-in hybrid.

Genesis has just launched an updated G90 and new G80 and GV80 models. There is more in the pipeline, though. Beyond this GV70 and smaller GV60, we’ll see an updated G70, and new coupe and compact hatch models, possibly both with battery-electric power.

Trucking Has A Problem

Car sales have certainly fallen off a cliff amid the coronavirus pandemic, but trailer sales are even worse, in an abyss so deep that you only need three digits to count how many were sold in April.

That number would be 300, according to Commercial Carrier Journal, which is a 98 percent year-over-year drop, the lowest level ever recorded. Trailer orders have averaged 13,500 per month for the preceding 12 months. Per the Journal:

[Don Ake, FTR vice president of commercial vehicles] said buying activity appears to be on hold until fleets can see a clear path forward, but he expects larger fleets will resume replacing old trailers “as soon as they see the economic restrictions lifted and freight growing again.”

The dry van segment was hit particularly hard last month and refrigerated van orders suffered some as well. Vocational orders remained tepid after falling significantly in March, FTR noted. Some specialty segments are holding up better under the stress.

“The key element to the trailer market recovery is for fleet confidence to improve. Carriers saw freight softening at the beginning of the year and then it cratered due to the recession caused by COVID-19,” Ake said.

There is a similar dynamic in car rental companies, which are rushing to not buy new cars and, in the case of Hertz, are in more dire straits. And while some truckers are still on the road, the industry as a whole has been hit as hard as everyone else, as shipments dry up and the economy remains closed in a lot of places, wiping out the need for freight shipping.

From Reuters:

According to the International Road Transport Union (IRU) in Geneva, which represents operators in 80 countries, new freight contracts have declined by 60% to 90% since COVID-19 struck while empty runs have climbed by up to 40%.

For truckers shipping products such as car parts, clothes, flowers and construction materials, operations have ground to an almost complete halt, the IRU said.

The routes that are left also aren’t paying as much, while the industry is more decentralized than others, with smaller players left to fight for scraps, as Reuters reports:

If the pain is prolonged, smaller U.S. carriers which cannot spread their costs across a large fleet could shut their doors, pushing skilled drivers out of the business and accelerating a longer-term shortage of truckers, industry groups say.

Some 97% of trucking companies in the United States operate fewer than 20 trucks, and 91% have six or fewer, according to the American Trucking Associations. Those workers rely more often on one-off jobs than long-term contracts.

Some routes are paying just 75 cents to 80 cents a mile, less than half of what’s needed to pay for fuel, insurance and other operating costs, according to five truckers. Pay is mostly determined by distances driven and they have also dropped.

Given this context, it’s almost surprising that 300 trailers sold at all, if everyone’s just trying to hang on. It feels like for most people that’s the only option currently: just hanging on.

7 Do’s and Don’ts for vehicle roof rack installation

Summer holidays are just around with a couple of weeks left for it, you might be thinking of a road trip that you might be planning for so long.

There is also a chance that you might consider taking your boat or bike along with you after you recently installed a universal roof rack from roof rack shop. Or there may be some chances that you would go for roof rack’s storage box approach.

There are some things if elaborated they are some dos and don’ts that a person should take care of for vehicle rack installation. If you don’t know much about the dos and don’ts regarding roof rack installation, then there is nothing to worry about, this article has got you covered.

This article will go through all the necessary 7 dos and don’ts for vehicle roof rack installation.

Read manuals of roof rack shop

It is advised that before fitting the roof rack that you bought from roof rack shop in your car, one should always go through the settings manual deeply as it contains a lot of information that a person is unaware of.

Reading it prevents one from committing mistakes and it makes sure the installation is safe, easy and quick at the same time.

Many people end up damaging their vehicles or having scratches on them. One should always read the manual first as your car is worth much more than the roof rack itself.

Torque it precisely

Torque settings are one of those settings that a person should not ignore for sure. After buying from roof rack shop, sometimes people end up making big mistakes such as fitting the roof rack loosely or sometimes way too tightly. One should always fit the roof rack properly so that it is trouble-free for years.

Lubing roof rack shop is the key

Many people just forget roof rack after installing and buying it from roof rack shop and don’t lube it. Mostly roof rack wears down due to being exposed to the weather.

Not lubing it regularly or once in a while can cause its life span to decrease by margins. It is advised to apply copper grease on the bolts that are mounted on the roof rack from time to time.

Remove roof rack shop when not in use

When the roof rack is not in use, one should not keep it installed for no good. As it weights much, it can needlessly affect your car and can also have an effect on your fuel consumption. You might end up going back to roof rack shop.

Do not overload

As discussed earlier, weight plays a vital role in roof rack shop. One should not overload and test roof rack to its limits as it can affect the vehicle’s rooftop badly.

Avoid Over speeding

One should not over speed in any given condition, but if the roof rack is installed from roof rack shop then it is strictly discouraged not to over speed as it will eventually damage your roof rack and vehicle.

Keep roof rack shop secured

One should always check the safety of the roof rack that has been bought from roof rack shop before beginning their journey.

They should keep it locked because if it isn’t, then it can slide off and land on your vehicle’s front mirror.

Shame that Fast & Furious 9 (or F9, to properly confuse everyone) got delayed a year, but do you know what that means? It’s time to catch up on the high-octane, high-speed, vroomy vroom series. Yes, those are all official car words, and yes, I love Fast & Furious. Thankfully for all the family-oriented gearheads, the Fast & Furious 8-Movie Blu-Ray Collection is just $50. That’s $6.25 a movie!

This, of course, includes all the mainline movies, from the original The Fast and The Furious to The Fate of the Furious, which certainly sounds like a title that would end the series. But it didn’t end, obviously. Fast & Furious is forever.

What this collection doesn’t include the latest spin-off (?) movie Hobbs & Shaw, but you can pick that one up for $15. I mean, it have Dwayne Johnson AND Idris Elba. What else can you ask for?

John Wick and John Wick: Chapter 2 are $7 a piece, while the newest movie, John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum, is $8. All together, that’s only $22!

Now, the third movie is available on HBO if you have that subscription, but HBO is lacking the first two movies for whatever reason. Additionally, while the first John Wick goes on sale fairly often, the second chapter does not. Why not save the headache of trying to find the right subscriptions and deals and just grab them all on Amazon now?

Also known as “Lil’ baby PlayStation,” the PlayStation Classic is basically Sony’s take on the tiny NES and Super NES that Nintendo released a couple years back, packing 20 original PSone games into a pint-sized, plug-and-play console.

It’s pretty no-frills in execution, but legendary games such as Final Fantasy VII, Metal Gear Solid, and Tekken 3 onboard, you can get a lot of fun out of it—especially now that it’s more than $40 off the list price.

Xbox Game Pass Ultimate is one of the hottest deals going in gaming. Even without meaty discounts like three months for $23 at CDKeys (normally $45), you’ll enjoy all the benefits of Xbox Live Gold and Game Pass for one low price. That means you’ll get online play, free games, exclusive discounts, in-game perks, and more, and that goes whether you’re on Xbox One, PC, or the soon-to-arrive Xbox Series X.

At this point the lore of the Assassin’s Creed franchise is so convoluted that it necessitated a reboot in the form of Assassin’s Creed Origins in 2017. While I didn’t play more than an hour or two of that one, I did play the latest Assassin’s Creed Odyssey, and let me tell you, the experience is worth paying full price. Still, if you’re an Xbox One owner and you haven’t already, pick up the Deluxe Edition for $20 and save yourself more than a few bucks later on as we approach the unspecified release date of Assassin’s Creed Valhalla.

The RPG-ified post-Syndicate Assassin’s Creed series breathes new life into what was becoming an increasingly stale, rinse/repeat formula. Now I love experimenting with different weapon types—beyond the Hidden Blade—and discovering what works for me vs. what doesn’t in the combat. My only regret is that I didn’t play as Kassandra, who I’m told is the canonical protagonist of the two playable characters. That said, I made plenty of queer love as Alexios, thanks to the inclusion of gender-neutral romance options.

This week the Bundesliga announced they will resume play, without fans in the stands of course. Perhaps England is following suit with asking players to return to the country. It still boggles my mind that people revere the monstrosity that is the original Xbox controller. I mean, the Controller S was alright—they actually put the white and black buttons where they belong, and it wasn’t a literal brick. But if you’re an Xbox purist who swear by six face buttons, grab Hyperkin’s Duke for $66, an officially licensed wired Xbox One controller in see-through green that’ll set off all your nostalgia dopamine.

It even has the white and black buttons on the front, but don’t fret if you can’t gel with that: We still have bumpers to go along with the triggers.

We were supposed to be playing Cyberpunk 2077 right around this time, but like the good studio it is, CD Projekt Red delayed the game until September 17 to polish up. There are far too many games to play to still be upset about that, but if you’ve been jonesing for Cyberpunk 2077, perhaps this pre-order deal will make you feel a bit better. CDKeys is offloading PC pre-orders for $45 a pop, which is the lowest we’ve seen so far.

Nearing the end of your PlayStation Plus subscription? It would normally cost you $60, but thanks to CDKeys, you can add a whole year to your account for just $33. PlayStation Plus is required for online play and cloud saves, but there are other premium benefits like free games, exclusive discounts, and Share Play. It doesn’t look like these shut-ins will go away quickly and quietly, so if you’re planning on filling your newfound time with a spot of gaming, PS+ is an absolute necessity.

A lot of us have had to make do with makeshift or low-quality face masks amid the rise of COVID-19, but if you’re looking for something that looks quite a bit more durable and comfortable, Wolford has an appealing option.

The Wolford Care Mask, a double-layered polyester mask that is contoured to snugly fit to your face, is now back in stock after being featured in Vogue. A water-repellant finish should help the Wolford Care Mask sustain the elements, while the “highly elastic, extra-thin bands” ensure that it’s not constantly slipping off.

It’s a pricier option at $26, but given how long wearing masks may be the new normal in various walks of life, it might be worth investing in something premium and durable.

How to Reboot Your Tesla Model 3

Spread the love

Are you interested in learning how to reboot your Tesla Model 3? First, let me tell you a little story…

I had to call tech support from my desk at work a while ago. Our conversation went something like this:

Tech Guy: “Good morning, this is tech support. How can I help you?”

Me: “Good morning. I’m having trouble accessing my network drive.”

Tech Guy: “Okay sir, I can help you with that. Did you try restarting your computer?”

Me: “RESTARTING MY COMPUTER? WHAT ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT? THE NETWORK DRIVE IS NOT BEING RECOGNIZED? HOW IS IT GOING TO HELP TO RESTART MY COMPUTER?!!!!”

Tech Guy: “Sir, will you please stop screaming and try it.”

Me (after restarting my computer): “That worked, thanks a bunch!”

Cars + Computers

If you’re like me you struggle with computers on a daily basis. Love it or hate it, most cars today have computers integrated into them in some fashion. The Tesla Model 3 is no exception. Tesla is a very unique car company as we mentioned here. Tesla’s Model 3 is somewhat phenomenal in that the touchscreen found in the center console allows the driver to control just about every facet of the car from this device.  Mike Hanley of Cars.com put it this way:

“From its focus exclusively on electric cars to the way it sells and services them, Tesla has charted its own course nearly every step of the way. Knowing that, it’s not surprising that the automaker wouldn’t feel compelled to put a traditional 8- or 10-inch screen in the dashboard of its Model 3 compact luxury sedan. Instead, the Model 3 has a 15-inch touchscreen mounted in front of the dashboard that’s the main interface for most vehicle systems — everything from the direction of the dashboard vents to the navigation system.”

Help! Where’s Tech Support?

So what happens when your system isn’t behaving and you need to reboot your Tesla Model 3? You can call Tesla’s support center at 877-798-3752. Please show them more kindness than I showed my company’s tech dude. You can also try to reboot the system and get things back to normal. When it comes to rebooting your system, there are essentially three options: soft, hard, and what I like to call ludicrous. We here at enrg.io highly recommend that you start with a soft reboot and progress to a hard reboot if that doesn’t work. We will tell you about the ludicrous method but can’t recommend that you try it. As the name suggests, it should only be attempted by the criminally insane…

Soft Reboot

The simplest and easiest reboot is the soft reboot. If the touchscreen in your Model 3 is acting up, or you’re having connectivity problems with your Bluetooth device, try this method. Think of this option as being similar to re-starting your smartphone when it is giving you grief. Follow these steps in order:

  1. Put your car in park.
  2. Hold down the scrolling buttons on your steering wheel. After a few seconds, your touchscreen should turn off.
  3. After a short weight (usually around 30 or 40 seconds) the iconic Tesla emblem will appear on the touchscreen and your home screen will appear automatically.

While you can technically perform this reboot while the car is in operation, it isn’t recommended that you do so. It is always best to stay distraction free while driving and wait until you can find a safe place to park before rebooting.  Although YouTuber “LivingTesla” isn’t able to solve his particular problem in the video below, he does succeed in providing an excellent demonstration on performing a soft reboot in the Model 3. You can check out this video here:

[embedded content]

Hard Reboot

If your issue is not fixed by performing a soft reboot, try a hard reboot. Instead of just restarting the touchscreen, a hard reboot will power down both your touchscreen and the car’s Central Processing Unit (CPU) and then power them up again. Follow these steps to perform this type of reboot:

  1. Put your car in park.
  2. Hold down the scrolling buttons on your steering wheel just as you did with the soft reboot but also depress the brake pedal.
  3. After the touchscreen shuts off, continue to hold down the scrolling buttons and the brake until the Tesla emblem re-appears.
  4. Your car will once again be ready to drive after all systems are turned back on.

Unlike with the soft reboot, this type of reset CANNOT UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES be performed while the car is in operation. Doing so could cause your car to be disabled, cause a dangerous situation, and make other motorists very angry with you.

Check out this concise and easy to follow videos from Matthew and Rodrigo of the “Electric Gains” YouTube channel for a demo:

Ludicrous Reboot

If both soft and hard reboots don’t fix the problem, fear not dear readers! There is a third option. Crazy you say? Sure. Just crazy enough to work. The ludicrous reboot is not recommended by Tesla or enrg.io, but it does exist and it is floating around on the web. Because it is already out there, I feel okay writing about it. To perform this reboot follow these steps:

  1. Put your car in park.
  2. Open the front hood and take the cover off of the 12-volt batter that is near the windshield.
  3. Using a 10-mm wrench (yes it must be 10-mm, no other size will do) unhook the cable from the terminal of the 12-volt battery.
  4. Wait 30 seconds and re-attach the cable.

Apparently, this solution was discovered by Tesla mechanics, but Tesla won’t endorse it as a viable option because it involves actually monkeying with the 12-volt battery and they don’t want you doing that. If you’re brave enough to try however, it is guaranteed to completely shut-down and re-start your car. If you’d like a video tutorial on the process, check out this one from YouTuber “Tech Forum:”

Anyone out there ever have the need to reboot your Tesla Model 3? Did you perform a soft reboot or a hard reboot? Any of you crazy cats ever dare to attempt the ludicrous reboot? Any other tips or ticks you have for getting your car’s computer back up and running? Please leave us a comment and share your thoughts.
